Lennart Bastian

Lennart is a Post-doctoral Research Scientist at Imperial College London, working with the Circle Group of Prof. Tolga Birdal, where he pursues topics at the intersection of geometry, topology, and machine learning. His research is funded by the UK Royal Society under the Newton International Fellowship.

He completed his PhD with highest distinction (summa cum laude) at the Chair for Computer Aided Medical Procedures (CAMP) in Munich, supervised by Prof. Nassir Navab, where he also coordinated research of the Surgical Data Science team. His M.Sc. thesis, “SDP Solvers with Optimal Storage Requirements and Applications,” was completed in Applied Mathematics at the Technical University of Munich under the supervision of Prof. Michael Ulbrich. He holds a Bachelor’s in Mathematics and Computer Science from New York University’s Courant Institute, with an emphasis on the biological sciences.
